Harper Lee's Tom Robinson Case in To Kill a Mockingbird bears many similarities to two real-life court cases: the Scottsboro case involving nine African American young men and a case involving an African American boy named Emmett Till, all in which African American males' lives were torn apart - and in Emmett Till's case, ended - because of the hateful social attitudes towards African Americans during the times in which the reported crimes took place.
